Background & Rationale

The School of Research and Data Science (SORADS) is an integral unit within our Professional College. The Department works in close partnership with all other centers or schools within our professional college. The SORADS was established in order to inculcate the spirit of research, science, critical thinking, and logical reasoning into our students. We want our students to possess the capacity to apply the scientific method, as opposed to using mere trial and error, to identify and effectively solve problems within whichever industries of practice or areas of live endeavors they may find themselves in after school.

To become one of the leading University Faculties in the world that equips students to conduct and publish high quality theoretical, empirical, methodological and technical research works in relevant areas that offer solutions to specifically identified problems affecting the human society, our planet and universe.

To produce, disseminate, and apply the findings of high-quality research works to make human lives and our world, a better place.

PROGRAMS

The DEPARTMENT of Research & Data Analysis currently offers Basic Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Professional /Post-Graduate) in Research Methods, Data Mining, and Statistical Analysis.

Entry Requirements

The eligible student must possess one of the entry requirements
A. SSSCE/WASSCE with asses in Core English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science plus any three (3) elective assess in General Arts, Visual Arts, General Science or Business.
B. Five (5) GCE “O” level credit including, English Language, Mathematics and Science and Two (2) “A” Level passes, one of which must be mathematics or Science.
C. Students possessing professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, ICA, ICEG, ACCE can also enroll.
D. Graduates with a bachelor (BS or BA) and Masters Degrees (MA, MBA, MSC, MPhil) can enroll. Such students must note that they may receive exemptions from certain courses if they are able to provide evidence that they studied, understood and passed it whilst pursuing their degree or masters programs.
E. Mature Applicants
i. Must be at least 25 years old
ii. Must have five GCE “O” Level credits including English Language, Mathematics and Science.
iii. Must have three (3) years of relevant working experience (evidence of practical experience is required).
iv. Must pass a written examination and interview.

Aims and Objectives

The principal goal of the program is to prepare students for meaningful employment in the research, data analysis, data science, data mining and information science industry, to facilitate effective decision and efficient decision making.
The program is comprehensive, allowing for a degree of freedom and scope in its interpretation. It is intended that the program, will achieve among others, the following: To

1.Provide integrated academic and professional studies in various relevant areas of research and data mining, to meet the needs of students and society.

2.Develop broad technical and professional skills and expertise in research methods, data analysis, data science, data mining, and data analysis, to help students develop the requisite skills, knowledge and practical tools for conducting scientific researches that could help address the myriad of problems facing our country and continent.

3.Promote the study of research methods and data analysis, as appropriate for solving problems affecting Ghana, Africa, and the world.

4.To provide students will the necessary skills that could make them become employable, their as researchers, analysts of corporate entities, NGOs or as private research consultants, thereby contributing to minimizing the unemployment problem in the country.
